Educational Support
Mission
To nurture students who are connected, competent and contributing members of the school and the community.
The Educational Support consists of a team of officers who develop upstream strategies to support High-Needs Students (HNS) through various intervention programmes. These programmes also serve as important platform for students to be connected with their learning experience, connected within the school and the larger community through their hearts, hands and minds.
(1) Connectedness with Learning Experience
(A) Students All Rise (StAR)
StAR programme is conducted for our Lower Secondary Normal Technical (NT) students on weekly Mondays (Marvellous Monday for the Sec 1s) and Fridays (Fabulous Friday for the Sec 2s). There are infusion of Sports, Aesthetics and S.T.E.A.M through modules such as the Toy-making, Aeronautics and F1 in schools. Different activities were carried out every term with the assistance of external partners such as SHINE Children & Youth Services, partnership with Sports Cares, Vivarch and Singapore Association of Counsellors for Motivational Workshop to engage our students.
(B) Study Clinic
This clinic is specialised to guide our students with special needs by our dedicated team of Allied Educators specializing in Learning and Behavioural Support (AED/LBS).
Our AED/LBS team is always on task and take the extra mile to support our students with learning needs. This will help to maximise the students’ learning potential. They work together with parents as the key stakeholders to ensure that students are fully supported in their journey in YSS.
(2) Connectedness within the School
(A) Youth Engagement at HangOutz (YE@H)
This programme aims to:
Strengthen after-school care and support for students Increase sense of belongingness and connectedness to school Nurture self-confidence, motivation and resilience
YE@H is an After School Engagement (ASE) programme tailored to engage a targeted group of students after school hours. This programme is managed by at least a staff (Student Welfare Officer) and a teacher representative.
It is held from Mondays to Fridays from 2.30pm to 5.00pm at the HangOutz.
(B) The LIT programme
This programme serves to engage our at-risk students through counselling therapy sessions. Each referred student is also attached to a social worker who will act as the youth mentor. This is a 12-month programme in which at the end of it, students will be involved in an intergenerational camp to execute the social skills which they have learnt throughout their journey.
(C) Chat@Recess
This is a platform conducted by our School Counsellors and School Health Advisor (SHA) to engage students in having a healthy body and mind.
(3) Connectedness within the larger community
(A) Values-In-Action (VIA) at SKM Awards Ceremony
Our YE@H students performed at the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) Award Ceremony in 2018. Students made a spectacular performance with the Cajon which they learnt during their YE@H sessions. They are certainly looking forward to serve the community in the post-Circuit Breaker period in the future.
(B) Values-in-Action (VIA) in School
For Teachers’ Day, the YE@H students designed and crafted their own Thank You notes. They also served them Barista and Dalgona coffee specially hand-made using their knowledge during YE@H sessions. YE@H! programme serves as a great platform for the students to internalise and exhibit the values of Respect, Integrity and Unity.
